Najczęstsze pytania

Czy potrzebuję licencji krótkofalarskiej?

Do odbioru przez internet (APRS-IS) nie: wystarczy dowolny znak i passcode -1. Nadawanie (beacon, wiadomości) wymaga licencji i passcode APRS-IS.

9600 i RS41 wymagają wyjścia „flat audio” (PACKET 9600).

Skąd wziąć passcode APRS-IS?

Nie musisz go szukać: aplikacja wylicza go ze znaku.

Pęknięcie i tempo opadania aplikacja mierzy sama z odebranych ramek (przed pęknięciem bierze wartości z ustawień), a trajektorię z aktualnymi wiatrami liczy SondeHub (Tawhiri), więc potrzebny jest internet. Ostatnia predykcja zostaje w telefonie, gdy stracisz zasięg.

FAQ

Do I need an amateur radio licence?

Not to receive over the internet (APRS-IS): any callsign with passcode -1 will do. Transmitting (beacon, messages) requires a licence and an APRS-IS passcode.

How do I connect my radio?

Through a KISS TNC. Settings → Transport: "KISS over BLE (dsTNC)" or "KISS over TCP (ESP-igate)" over Wi-Fi (port 8001 by default). Over BLE the app supports Nordic UART (NUS), HM-10 and RN4870 modules, as well as custom UUIDs. iOS does not give apps access to classic Bluetooth (SPP), so modules such as the HC-05 will not work with an iPhone.

Open hardware by the app's author that does this:

  • dsTNCv2 - a DSP-based TNC (dsPIC): AFSK 1200 and GMFSK 9600 at the same time, plus RS41 radiosonde decoding. Connects to the radio through a TinyTrak-compatible DB9 connector. 9600 and RS41 need the radio's "flat audio" output (PACKET 9600).
  • ESP-igate v3 - firmware for the Seeed XIAO ESP32-C6, wired to dsTNCv2 with three wires plus ground. It provides KISS over BLE for the iPhone (advertised as dsTNC) and, at the same time, KISS over TCP on port 8001, and also works as an iGate and digipeater. It can feed APRS-IS traffic to the phone over BLE when there is no mobile coverage. It also works with radios that have a built-in KISS TNC (e.g. Kenwood TM-D710) through a level converter. The app can configure it over BLE (Settings → ESP-igate configuration), without the WebUI and without joining its Wi-Fi network.

Where do I get an APRS-IS passcode?

You don't need to look for it: the app calculates it from your callsign. Settings → Station: enter your callsign and tap "Calculate" next to the passcode field.

Does the map work offline?

Yes. Settings → Offline map: download the area around your position (radius in km) or around the predicted balloon landing site. The size is shown before downloading, so a larger region is best downloaded over Wi-Fi. Keep the phone unlocked while it downloads. On the map, switch the mode with the button in the bottom right corner (standard → satellite → offline).

How does balloon landing prediction work?

It runs for stations with the balloon symbol (O). For any other station, enable it in the Stations tab → Actions. The app measures the burst and the descent rate from received frames (before the burst it uses the values from settings), and SondeHub (Tawhiri) computes the trajectory with current wind data, so it needs internet access. The last prediction stays on the phone when you lose coverage.

Does the app support CarPlay?

Yes. In the car you get a map with stations and, on top of it, Chase (bearing and distance to the target), Stations and Messages. Mic-E Emergency alerts also appear on the car screen.

Where is my data?

Only on your phone. Details in the privacy policy.
